Introduction
I am married and a proud father of 4 children ranging from 6 months to 24 years. I live in Northamptonshire in the Midlands with my wife, my youngest child, and our 2 longhaired house cats who are never far from our sides.
When I get the chance, I enjoy live music, traveling, running (…well jogging these days!) and have recently taken up dinghy sailing at a local reservoir, although I seem to spend more time in the water than on it!
Background
I started my career falling into Logistics and have never looked back. I enjoy the variety that the logistics industry has provided, and I have had the privilege of working with some very interesting companies with different cultures, in different industries, with their own unique challenges. I like to think that I have come to understand the industry challenges and helped those companies improve what they do.
I studied Maths and Management Science at UMIST in Manchester and finished with the world ahead of me but without a real understanding of my vocation. My first role was as a business analyst at TDG in Manchester and after a couple of years of learning the ropes, I moved to Berkshire to work for Ryder Integrated Logistics as a Planning Manager. During my time at Ryder, I took the opportunity to move to a newly created division providing logistics solutions for large companies throughout Europe. As well as managing various customer relationships and implementing cost saving solutions for the customers, during this period I developed a penchant for database modeling for large complex datasets, combing data with multiple pan European transport tariffs and developing my first carrier database.
In 2001 I left Ryder and co-founded 3T Logistics, a pure independent 4PL business. I undertook many roles in the 3T business, responsible for solution design, operations, carrier management, implementation, and sales before taking up the role of Managing Director at the beginning of 2013. In the early years I put my database modeling techniques to good use, developing the first prototype planning system, I expanded the carrier database and I developed the first integrated reporting platform which generated management information at order line level, providing vital cost to serve information to the clients, as well as myriad business intelligence reports. I expanded the business from the UK into mainland Europe, scaling across our clients’ logistics footprint. I managed some of our key customer relationships including JCB, Honda, SAICA, Linpac, and Recticel.
During my time as Managing Director I trebled the revenue of the business and doubled the headcount, reaching more than 90 employees. I led our IT investment business case to migrate our TMS from legacy client server to a fully cloud based solution. We were recognised by Gartner for our TMS capability and featured in the TMS magic quadrant for 4 consecutive years. I established a business partner in the US and developed our business plan with investment for the next 5 years. I put in place a management team of functional Directors, responsible for annually agreed objectives that all fed into our annual business review and targets. At the end of 2020, we split the 4PL and technology sides of the business, with a view to transitioning the business into a pure TMS technology offer.
In 2021 I stepped away from the business to focus on new challenges and enable the Chairman and majority owner of the business to position for acquisition.
Current Aspirations
I have always been driven to create the optimum logistics solution for the clients that I work with. Reduction in waste generates sustainable Carbon friendly optimum solutions, as well as generating cost savings. It is a company’s corporate responsibility to take action to reduce their Carbon Footprint and this can be achieved through the introduction of technology to provide measurement and control.
Business is going through a fundamental shift, people are rejecting corporate life and seeking a better work life balance. The digital infrastructure is in place to support a different way of working that enables people to strive for a happy and fulfilled life without working in high-pressured short-term profit orientated environments. I believe companies need to evolve to put their people, their families, and home lives first, to attract the greatest talent.
I believe we will see a significant shift in organisations' supplier bases over the next 10 years, moving to more locally produced supply to reduce Carbon Footprint as the reduction in Carbon becomes more of a legislative requirement. We will see smaller organisations competing for business and accessing flexible technology solutions that would only have been available to large global corporates in the past. While Carbon offsetting is becoming more commonly accepted, it does not provide for long term sustainability and just acts to paper over the cracks. Strategies for actual Carbon Footprint reduction is where the future lies, and this will fundamentally change today’s supply chain and logistics provision for the better.

We have introduce a micro-consultancy concept called Loguru lite
,
The principle is that you can book time by the hour with subject matter experts to help and mentor through a number of disciplines across Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement and Technology. The view being that sometimes consultancy can be seen as being heavy and expensive, when on occasion just access to an expert can add sufficient value to ensure success.
